Uri Caine and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in Szczecin

Uri Caine is one of the finest pianists who combines classical music with jazz, electronic music and the Klezmer tradition. He also experiments with modern music genres and styles including funk, hip-hop and fusion. He has worked with such distinguished artists as John Zorn and Freddie Hubbard.

On 11 April this American pianist will perform in Szczecin alongside the excellent Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

Although he had already started to learn the piano at the age of 7, it was not until his thirties that Uri Caine (born 1953) released his first album. A protégée and student of Bernard Peiffer and George Crumb, he is now considered to be one of the most unique and original artists who combines classical sounds with jazz, klezmer and electronic music. Caine became famous for his bold interpretations of Mahler, Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, among other achievements.

The Swedish Chamber Orchestra has been universally lauded: “The Orchestra brings to this music a textural clarity and steely edge unattainable by most period-instrument groups. And in Mr. Dausgaard it has a conductor who moulds its performances for maximum impact” (The New York Times); “Under Dausgaard, this modern-instrument ensemble has incorporated 18th-century practice to build a gorgeous, highly disciplined Beethoven sound” (The Washington Post).

The Swedish Chamber Orchestra (Svenska Kammarorkestern) was founded in 1995 in Örebro. Since 1997, it has been conducted by Thomas Dausgaard, who was described by The Daily Telegraph as “a conductor of rare conviction and insight”. In a career spanning over 20 years, this ensemble has made almost 50 records with classical music interpretations. It has 38 regular members, including Nikolaj Znaider, both a conductor and a violinist for the ensemble.

The concert starts on Monday, 11 April 2016, at 19:00 in the symphony hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic. Tickets are available from the Philharmonic’s ticket office and on www.filharmonia.szczecin.pl
