Scandinavian Days – day two

The second day of the Scandinavian Days is before us. Feel free to browse through the Friday schedule of accompanying events.

Between 10 am - 2:45 pm the scientific conference “Elderly care – Polish and Scandinavian solutions” will take place. The meeting will feature a presentation of various elements of the system of providing care to dependent elderly people in Scandinavia and Poland. The invited specialists will be discussing such subjects as elderly care according to the Nordic model, the system of care for dependent elderly people in the context of an ageing society and technology in social care. The conference will also feature the stalls of companies which provide products and services to facilitate elderly care, and a photographic exhibition, “Bliżej siebie” (“Closer to each other”).

The Department of Scandinavian Studies of the Faculty of Philology invites you to a meeting between 10 am and 3 pm which will help you gain more insight into Scandinavian culture. The event will feature Norwegian songs, a recitation of poems by students of Scandinavian studies, and presentations on Scandinavian mythology, the town of Egersund, studies, and placements in Norway. Optionally, participants can have a try at learning Norwegian.

At 11 am, we invite you to Complex of Schools No. 5 on Hoża Street to watch the performances of children and young people from Szczecin’s schools. The event will include an exhibition of competition works, the presentation of awards to the winners of interschool competitions, and tastings of Scandinavian regional products.

At 4.30 pm you can attend a lecture by Iben Sandahl, a psychotherapist and co-author of the book “Hygge. The Danish Art of Happiness”. The meeting will take place in the 13 Muz club. Free admission after obtaining a free pass (limited places available) at the Tourist Information Centre (the glass pavilion on Al. Kwiatowa).

A presentation of the fighting methods and techniques used by the Vikings, a discussion of the attire and weapons used by the Vikings across the centuries, and a lecture by Michał Ochmański entitled “Viking influences in the Slavic lands – Szczecin and West Pomerania”. These attractions have been organised for a thematic meeting with the Huginns Hird Historical Re-enactment Group. The event will be held at the “Klub Skolwin” Culture Centre at 5 pm. The Euroregion Culture Centre “Stara Rzeźnia” invites you to a screening of “The Optimists”. It will be accompanied by a lecture on Scandinavian cinema by Michał Chaszkowski-Jakubów from the “in tractU” Culture and Integration Society. The event starts at 6 pm. www.stararzeznia.szczecin.pl

Music is a big part of the Scandinavian Days. The Me.Ba music festival will include a concert by the Jukka Perko Quartet. From 6 pm. www.saa.pl

The Trafo Centre for contemporary art invites you to a Scandinavian dance party. Featuring hits from such bands as ABBA, A-HA, and ROXETTE. Free admission.

In the evening, the 13 Muz Club is holding two interesting events. At 7.30 pm the interdisciplinary exhibition “Norwegofil” (“Norway buff”) and the multimedia projection “Aurora” will begin. The cultural space of Scandinavia will be presented in an unconventional way using various forms and media. At 8 pm you can come to a concert by Jahn Teigen, a Norwegian singer and composer. www.13muz.eu
